The EUAC XC squad put in some impressive performances today on home turf; the deceptively challenging course of the muddy playing fields just around the corner from the track.
Lydia Trow pulled away from the field to finish a strong 20th in the combined U17 men/woman's race over the 5k distance. She was closely followed by fresher Suzie Reid (23rd). Marathon runner Nikita Steiner followed for the team and she was backed up by Eleanor Johnson, Anna Woolf, Penny Oliver, Sophie Telfer and Harriet Dunn. Fending off strong competition from local club Exeter Harriers, Kathrin Klute, Eliza Gilxhrist, Charlie Cornwall , Hannah Kilby, Harriet Conti, Mellissa Wembridge and Kitty Taylor rounded off the team performance for the green machine.
Next up were the Men's team over a 9k course already seriously churned up from the previous races. Zach Nolan strode out for the boys to finish a very credible 10th, a position that brought us into rival with the top guns of Bideford AC. He was backed up by Charlie Critchley, Phil Bridge and Joe Donkin who racked up more points for the green machine. Undaunted by the mud and hills, road runner Joachim Tranvag and 1.52 800m runner Joe Saissi battled it out for 26th and 28th. They were pursued by fresher's Sam Peters and Dan Myers, Westward Vets Calum Smith and Josh Eve, and Ben Holmes, Luke McWilton, Victor Meeus, James Hancock and Ben Howard.
A great finish to the first half of the XC season, and great preparation for the big races coming up after the holiday with BUCS looming on the horizon.
