On the 22nd October, a small band of spirited white and green warriors made their way across Devon towards Plymouth, where they would be beaten in their first Track event of the season by a Plymouth side boasting both home and numerical advantage.
Despite the result this was an encouraging start to the season. Debuts were handed to Rebecca Silk, Liza Keleynova and Tom Beckett, while Charlie Critchley made his first appearance for the Club on the track. Wins came in the 200m Track and Field Captain Chris Churcher and Olivia Dyer, while Critchley cruised to a 1500m win in 4.18, over 20 seconds quicker than the next finisher. Keleynova put on an excellent all-round display in the field events, winning the High Jump and coming second in the Long Jump.
The day closed with victory for Kelly McMahon in the 60m followed by convincing wins in the 4x200m relays for both Men's and Women's A teams, with a plucky Men's B side cobbled together with Cross Country runners and Beckett falling just half a second short of 2nd place.
The overall honours went to Plymouth who won with 84 points, followed by Exeter with 62 points and the University of West England in third with 52 points. Exeter will be proud of their efforts but keen to make amends in the November Varsity match at Exeter Arena.
