EUAC's domination of the South West United Services League hit new heights on the 29th October, as the Ladies maintained their record of locking out the top two positions in every race this season while the Men's team built upon their 230 point lead in the table. This famed course with its river crossings and mile-long hill is known amongst competitors for its arduousness, and every member of the white and green brigade can be proud of their contribution to the thrashing we delivered to the opposition.
It was the absolutely rampant nature of our performance across both teams that set this race apart from the others. While wins have become something of the norm for Club Captain Steph McCall and Anders Grahl this season, it was the latter's audacious 'bomb' into the river before romping home to victory that summed up our day. Vicky Budd's second successive 2nd place proved vital in securing top spot in the Ladies' league ahead the Devon & Cornwall Police, with Mike Robinson's finish in 3rd putting further daylight between the Men's team and the Britannia Royal Naval College. Both athletes have so far heaped pressure throughout the season upon Newnham Park's race winners and will be looking to kick on and secure wins in their own right.
We will not succeed this year with just four athletes in our Cross Country team, however. Inspiring performances came from Charlie Critchley in 5th, Treasurer Joseph Perkins in 7th and Phillip Bridge in 13th in the Men's race, with Eleanor Johnson, Charlotte Tromans and Carys Morgan coming home in 7th, 13th and 14th respectively for the Ladies. The tenacity and drive exhibited by everyone wearing an EUAC vest on this day was something to be admired and represents a shining example of what we are achieving this year as a team. We now turn our attentions back toward the Westward League, racing in Newquay on the 9th November.
