In recognition of her commitment to training, improvement in races and for bringing such a positive attitude to sessions, EUAC's Sophie Telfer has been awarded Athlete of the Month for November. Rarely missing a track session, social run or trail session Sophie proves that commitment to training certainly pays off! I caught up with her earlier this week to ask her some questions...
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I'm From France and I'm half English half French. I'm in my first year and I'm currently doing Modern languages (Spanish and German)...although as a few of you might remember, I spent a term at Uni last year! After Uni I want to work in the travel and tourism industry as a resort manager. My dream is to spend my winter in ski resorts!
What did you do in your gap year?
During my Gap year I spent a ski season in Val d'Isere in France working for a Chalet renting company. The job wasn't that great but the perks were that I got to ski every day! I loved the resort and the people I lived with were awesome! Then I spent the summer working at a girl scout summer camp in America. That was also awesome! I then went travelling around the Wild West and visited the states of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Utah.
Have you always loved running?
I've always hated sprinting but I love long distances and cross country running! You get such a kick at the end of it!
What's your favourite way to train?
My favourite way to train is by going on long jogs either with people or by myself. I like running when the weather is good!
Have you got a proudest accomplishment in your running?
My proudest accomplishment when running was probably when I was 15. During my Duke of Edinburgh award we had to do a beach run and I was the first girl! And 7th overall!
Have you got any personal targets you'd like to meet?
Targets I Hope to meet: get quicker! I want be able to run a 1500m in about 4:55 which is probably a little ambitious but it's a goal! I also want to work on some distance running. A 1/2 marathon might be on the horizon in the next couple of years...
Thanks Soph, and great work in all your recent training. I'll be catching up with another EUAC member at the end of month, so don't let the cold, dark days and rainy weather keep you away from the track!
